INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY
The International Literacy Day awards ceremony and recognition event is held annually. It celebrates the
achievements of adult learners and recognizes the organizations and individuals
that support them.
International Literacy Day was established in 1965 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), and is celebrated around the world each year on September 8.

FAMILY LITERACY DAY
Family Literacy Day was initially launched in 1999 by ABC Canada, a national non-profit organization which
promotes literacy. It is now celebrated annually in every province and territory.
