Recognition of Prior Learning (RLP) Framework

The Skills and Learning Branch of the Department of Labour and Workforce Development in partnership with the Prior Learning Centre (formerly the PLA Centre), developed an RPL Framework to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the field of RPL.  

 

This framework will support our government to:

  • become a leader in RPL       
  • build greater systems capacity for RPL
  • set the standard for quality and consistency in practice, and
  • create awareness and educate all relevant stakeholders.

We believe adults should not have to repeat previous learning. To that end, prior learning is recognized in various ways (for example, transfer credits).

Apprenticeship Training and Skill Development Division

The Apprenticeship Training and Skill Development Division provides RPL opportunities for individuals who qualify.   If you have experience or certification in a designated trade and want to become certified in Nova Scotia, you can apply for assessment and recognition.
